Welcome to the Trezor family! If you’re here, it means you’re ready to take the first steps toward securing your cryptocurrency with one of the most trusted hardware wallets on the market. This guide will walk you through the easy setup process so you can start managing your digital assets with confidence.
Before we get started, make sure you have:
Your Trezor device (either Model One or Model T)
A computer or mobile device with an internet connection
The USB cable that came with your Trezor
A piece of paper and a pen for jotting down your recovery seed
Begin by opening your web browser and navigating to Trezor.io/Start. This is your starting point for all things Trezor!
Trezor Suite is the official application that allows you to manage your cryptocurrencies securely. You can download it from the Trezor start page.
For Desktop: Available for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
For Mobile: Trezor Suite is also accessible via your web browser, though using the desktop app is recommended for enhanced security.
Once Trezor Suite is installed, connect your Trezor device to your computer using the USB cable.
When you connect it for the first time, your Trezor will automatically initialize. Follow the on-screen instructions to proceed.
To ensure your device is secure and functioning at its best, you might need to update the firmware. Trezor Suite will prompt you if this is necessary.
Just follow the on-screen instructions. This is a quick process and crucial for your device’s security.
Now it’s time to create your wallet! You’ll be given two options: Create a new wallet or Recover a wallet. If you’re new to Trezor, choose the first option.
As you create your wallet, Trezor will generate a 12, 18, or 24-word recovery seed. This seed is your key to accessing your funds if your device is lost or damaged.
Write it down: Use the paper provided (or any secure method) to write down your recovery seed. Store it in a safe place and never share it with anyone. This step is critical!
Next, you’ll be asked to set up a PIN for your device. This adds an extra layer of security:
Choose a strong PIN that you can remember but isn’t easily guessable. You’ll need to enter it each time you want to access your wallet.
For additional security, you can set a passphrase. This is an optional step but highly recommended for advanced users:
If you choose to set one up, remember that this passphrase is separate from your recovery seed and must be remembered to access your wallet.
With your wallet ready, you can start adding cryptocurrency accounts:
Go to the “Accounts” section in Trezor Suite and add accounts for the cryptocurrencies you wish to store. Trezor supports a wide variety, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and more.
You’re all set! Now you can begin sending and receiving cryptocurrencies.
When making transactions, always verify the address and amount on your Trezor device’s screen to ensure everything is correct.
Backup Your Recovery Seed: Consider storing it in multiple secure locations.
Keep Your Device Updated: Regular firmware updates help protect against vulnerabilities.
Be Wary of Phishing: Always ensure you’re using the official Trezor website and never share your recovery seed or PIN with anyone.
Congratulations on setting up your Trezor device! You’ve taken an important step toward securing your cryptocurrency investments. With Trezor, you can manage your digital assets with peace of mind, knowing you have a robust security solution in place.
